Mia Balderas was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas and knew early on that she wanted to create positive change in her community. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Global Studies with a minor in Spanish at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. She began working in local government with the City of San Antonio’s Office of Equity and built community relationships and identified barriers to community engagement.
Afterwards, she led the communications strategy as the Communications and Outreach Director for State Representative Diego Bernal. She made the intentional transition to the nonprofit sector and joined MOVE Texas in 2020 as the Executive Associate. She now holds the Staff Director position and is committed to making the organization better for everyone that ever calls MOVE Texas their political home.
Outside of MOVE Texas, Mia is a fiber artist who has studied at the Southwest School of Art, traveled to Oaxaca to learn from master artisans, and sells art locally in San Antonio with her mom and sisters as MIJA Folk Art.
