Laura Derrick was born in Austin, grew up in the tiny town of Garwood, Texas, and currently calls Austin home. She joins MOVE Texas with a deep-rooted passion for organizing, and a steadfast commitment to building a more equitable, healthy, and just future for Texas.
Laura’s extensive political background includes roles in three presidential campaigns, a governor’s race, and multiple local campaigns. As a key member of the startup team for Battleground Texas, she served as Training Director and Special Projects Manager, helping to launch a new wave of organizers and activists.
She most recently served as Director of Strategic Partnerships at the Texas Civil Rights Project. Laura has studied and worked in film and photography, and is certified as a birth and postpartum doula. She enjoys gardening and cooking, and keeping up with the amazing exploits of her now-grown two children.
