On Inauguration Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day, MOVE Texas Honors the Resistance and Power of Young People

TEXAS – As the nation observes both Inauguration Day and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the same day, and recognizing two *very* different people, MOVE Texas is reflecting on the sharp contrast between these two moments in history. While we honor the life and legacy of Dr. King, we are also reminded that his lessons will be most salient under a Trump Administration. This statement is for every young Texan who dreams, organizes, and refuses to be silenced.

Dear Young Organizers,

We understand the weight of this moment. You may feel rage as we watch a leader take office that does not reflect the values we fight for. That anger is valid and must serve as a reminder of why we continue to show up. Ironically, today is also a celebration of one of our best leaders, organizers, and fighters. As we honor Dr. King’s enduring legacy– let hope win, because we are part of something bigger, a movement that stretches far before, and will stretch far beyond today.

Whatever you are feeling, remember this: the systems we fight against are not immovable. Dr. King fought them for his entire life, and he gave his life fighting against them. Today, we are greater in number than those that seek to divide us. And together, we have empowered voters to make their voices heard, mobilize our communities, and demand accountability from elected officials that don’t serve us. Now, we must turn our anger and our hope into the fuel that drives our fight forward.

As we look to the years ahead, know that MOVE Texas will not stop fighting for you. With righteous anger and unrelenting hope, we will continue organizing and building a Texas where every young voice is heard. Every step we take together brings us closer to a future that is ours to claim.

With love and determination,

The MOVE Texas team
